Uranus in astrology

Uranus is the planet of change you did not plan. It stays about seven years in a sign, so it marks a generation more than a person, until it touches a planet in your chart.

What Uranus means

Uranus stands for freedom, invention, shock and waking up. Where it sits in your chart, you do not want to do things the usual way. When it crosses one of your planets, something that was stuck breaks loose. The break can feel like bad luck at first and like relief a year later.

A planet found with a telescope

William Herschel found Uranus in 1781, the first planet that no one had seen with the naked eye. Astrologers gave it the meanings of its time: revolution in America and France, and the machines of a new age.

Uranus in your chart

Uranus goes around the zodiac in about 84 years. It squares its own place in your chart around age 21, opposes it around 42 and returns around 84. The opposition is the midlife turn: see Uranus opposite Uranus.
