The twelve houses
The houses split your chart into twelve parts of life, from your body and money to your work and your private life. They come from the time and place of your birth, so they are the most personal part of a chart.
How houses work
The sky turns once a day, so the signs pass over the horizon one after another. The house system freezes that turn at the moment you were born. The first house starts at the eastern horizon and the tenth at the highest point of the sky. A planet’s sign says how it acts. Its house says where in your life it acts.

The twelve houses
- The first house: Self, body and first impressions.
- The second house: Money, things and self-worth.
- The third house: Siblings, talk and the near world.
- The fourth house: Home, family and roots.
- The fifth house: Play, romance, children and art.
- The sixth house: Work, health and daily habits.
- The seventh house: Partners, marriage and open rivals.
- The eighth house: Shared money, intimacy and endings.
- The ninth house: Travel, study and belief.
- The tenth house: Career, reputation and status.
- The eleventh house: Friends, groups and hopes.
- The twelfth house: Solitude, rest and what is hidden.
