The square
A square is two planets three signs apart. They want different things at the same time, and the friction makes you move.
What a square means
A square links signs of the same modality but clashing elements. The two planets get in each other’s way. That is uncomfortable, and it is also why squares build strength: you cannot ignore them, so you work on them. Many successful people have hard squares.
Angle and orb
A square is 90° between two planets. Few aspects are exact, so astrologers allow an orb, a margin either side. Solstice uses 8° for a square between planets in your chart.
